Check which Endnote style you are actually using. That's not very convenient, takes way too much time (particularly in long documents). I can find out only by moving the cursor inside such text and pressing the 'Edit CItation(s)' button from the Endnote toolbar. The problem with the lack of shading is that you never know whether what you see is an actual Endnote citation or just handritten text.

I would be happy if all my references were permanently grey as well. It is just me or do others have this problem as well? I have activated field shading in Writer, so all other fields in my document (eg, ToC and page numbers) are permanently grey. For some reason, that does not happen in my OO Writer. Here my issue: In MS Word, whenever you move the cursor inside an Endnote citation, the entire citation turns grey, indicating that it is a field (rather than plain text). I am used to working with Endnote in MS Word, just recently switched to OO Writer because it handles long documents better.
